English homework for week 38
Ruth Elizabeth ’’Bette’’ Davis, was born in April 1908 in USA. First Davis wanted to become a dancer but when she begun with a theater group she changed her mind, she wanted to become an actress instead. She was very good on what she was doing so her mother reported her to an actress school in New York.
After she had gotten a few Broadway roles a talent scout put notice to her and she got an audition in Hollywood.
The audition went wrong but she did get a role in the movie Bad Sisters but that was not a success because the producers didn’t think she had a sexual charisma so she got fired right after the recording.
But the fact that she got fired didn’t stop Davis from becoming a famous actress. She was a stubborn women so she was soon back on track with a part in Of Human Bondage as a slutty waitress. The year after that she got an Oscar for Dangerous.
Why she is famous today isn’t that hard to understand, except being a part of over 100 movies in 48 years, she got two Oscars and was nominated in nine, she co-founded the Hollywood Canteen, she was the first female to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute, she won the academy award for best actress twice and many more things.
On top on everything she had a though private life. She adopted a child that had brainsickness and she was married four times. Bette Davis died in a hospital in Paris when she was treated for cancer 1989.
If I could ask Bette Davis one question and would ask her how she was able to be so strong and keep following her dreams even though she had a bunch of setbacks. If she maybe had one special person that helped her through the hard times or some music that was special for her or anything else.
Here's a clip from one of the movies.
